Author Etiquette Round-Up

I promised a picture post but that will have to wait, I haven’t enough good pictures yet. I am hoping it gets cold enough that there will be frost in the mornings and that it snows. Snow is beautiful to capture.

There has been a lot of author drama lately.

1. Recently the author of ‘The Selection‘, Kiera Cass and her agent Elana Roth performed badly to a quite a fair review on Goodreads.

2. Author Mike Coe left 40 comments, yes 40 comments on a not so positive review of his book.

3. Leigh Fallon of ‘Carrier the Mark’  sent this email and tried to rally her friends to gang up on a reviewer and down vote it on Amazon.

I don’t think people have learnt proper business etiquette here, and how this kind of thing does them a disservice. There is no reading mafia, reviewers don’t get salaries or paid. Goodreads is a place where readers can leave their reviews positive or bad. Trying to manipulate reviews of your book is misleading and like fraud to your potential readers. Glowing reviews are a nice thing but they do not usually provide a balance which is needed for a reader to make an informed choice. In fact negative reviews can lead to new readerships. Everyone needs to take a good lesson in business and P.R..

Other notes:

Anyway come Summer 2012 I am doing a Come Dine With Me style dinner party for my family. It will be Chess themed so, everyone will be dressed in black and white and as chess pieces. Desserts will be white chocolate home made cheesecake and chocolate home made cake. I am really excited for this! So I will take pictures and let you know how it goes!

ETA: change of layout. Prefer this one tbh.

  1. That seems like such a desperate thing for the authors to do, wouldn’t they just believe in the integrity of works to allow for accurate and deserving reviews and then deal with the result? Insane.

You have to post photos of that night because it sounds so cool!!! It’s such a unique idea, even I’m excited about it! haha
